Former Health minister Dr Jonathan Coleman has retained the health portfolio following the reshuffle by new leader Simon Bridges.
Coleman – who didn’t join the leadership contest despite talk he might throw his hat into the ring – has risen one notch in the Opposition front bench from seventh to sixth in the re-shuffle.
Maggie Barry, who has dropped out of a top 20 position in the National caucus and lost the conversation portfolio, has been named as an associate spokesperson for health. Barry has moved from 19th to 25th in the caucus and is also spokesperson for seniors and veterans.
Matt Doocey remains National’s mental health spokesperson and is ranked at 28th. Whangarei MP Dr Shane Reti, ranked 42nd, remains an associate spokesperson for health but also picks up spokesperson for disability issues from Nicky Wagner. Wagner has fallen 18 places in the caucus rankings to 40th.
Christchurch-based list MP Jo Hayes remains spokesperson for Whanau Ora.
National’s current members on Parliament’s Health Select Committee are: Dr Shane Reti (deputy chair), Dr Jonathan Coleman, Matt Doocey and Nicky Wagner.
