A “Live Stronger for Longer” website has been launched by ACC to help prevent falls and fractures including promoting approved community exercise classes for the over-65s.
The website, a partnership between ACC, Health Quality & Safety Commission and the Ministry of Health, promotes a “use it or lose it” approach to encouraging the over-65s to build their leg and core strength to help improve their balance and reduce the risk of falling.
The project includes supporting access to approved community-based and in-home strength and balance programmes. A national advisory group has developed research-based clinical assessment criteria which programmes must meet to get a quality ‘tick’.
The site is a work in progress with the start dates for approved community programmes to be added as they are confirmed. More information at live stronger.org.nz
