The New Zealand Aged Care Association (NZACA) has been inundated with queries from providers as they try to meet Ministry of Health requirements relating to the pay equity settlement in time for the implementation of increased wages.
Following questions and feedback from the sector, the Ministry has updated the pay equity operational policy document for aged residential care providers to help provide guidance on the implementation of pay equity settlement agreement.
The Ministry is requiring completed data from every provider by 2 June 2017 . A central Ministry team has been set up to work with providers to help them with completing the Workforce Translation Tool.
NZACA chief executive Simon Wallace says they are working closely with the Ministry to help address providers’ concerns.
“What people need to appreciate is that this pay equity settlement is massive and because of that it is naturally complex,” says Wallace.
Information sessions for providers are being scheduled for next week (22-26 May) in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.
Providers are legally required to pay eligible employees the new pay rates from 1 July 2017.
