“Mum loved being at Cheviot [Rest home] and it made it much easier for us knowing she was happy.”

That was one of many reviews that helped Cheviot Rest Home, a 14-bed facility 75-minutes’ drive from Christchurch, take out the Best Small Aged Care Facility award for the fourth year running in the annual People’s Choice Awards for Best Retirement Villages and Aged Care Facilities.

Sue Coleman, Owner of Cheviot Rest Home was delighted to hear they had won again.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes this morning when checking the award winners… what a surprise. [We were about to] celebrate achieving 4 years certification for the first time following our recent audit. Now I can add in this awesome result too!”

The awards, now in their fourth year, are run by Aged Advisor, a review site with over 4100 reviews on more than 625 care facilities and retirement villages around New Zealand. Almost 1500 of those reviews relate specifically to aged care.

There are nine categories for the awards and winners ranged from RedRoofs Rest home in Dunedin to Maygrove Lifestyle Village in Orewa, North of Auckland.

Cheviot Rest Home wasn’t the only familiar name to crop up. Malyon House Rest home and Hospital in Mount Maungauni has picked up their third trophy.

Managing director Amy Munro, says the awards have helped generate great word-of-mouth feedback.

“I even had a job applicant mention our award-winning status in her cover letter recently. The staff morale boost is great, and the residents of course get quite excited.”

Aged Advisor founder Nigel Matthews agrees response from the public has been great.

“What we’re finding is that more and more people want to share their story and experience. We’ve even had residents hand write or type out their lovely story on extra pages and include it in with their review form.”

“We’ve had almost double growth year on year with reviews and enquiries, and we’re pleased to be able to showcase the facilities that go above and beyond in giving their residents the care and peace of mind that they look for when making a decision to move.”
