Developing and sustaining healthy workplaces is just the beginning. Our expert panel will bring some much-needed thought leadership and discussion to this important and topical issue, probing some of the grittier aspects such as bullying in the workplace, social media use, and looking after your mental health and wellbeing on the job.
Anyone with an interest in this topic, including business leaders, employees, health professionals and mental health and wellbeing advocates are encouraged to join us at NZME Wellington for an intimate evening of discussion and debate over wine and cheese led by our expert panel.

The discussion will take a question and answer format and it will be moderated by Jude Barback, HealthCentral.nz editor. Panellists will be given questions prior to the event but there will be an opportunity for audience members to ask questions from the floor.
Limited to 50 people. We are striving for a relaxed, intimate setting.
The discussion will be filmed and be shared on various NZME channels including HealthCentral.nz and related social media. It will also be used as the basis for subsequent articles on the topic.

Bevan Catley – co-founder Healthy Work Group, Massey University
Bevan is an Associate Professor in the School of Management (Auckland) at Massey University. He is co-founder of the Healthy Work Group – a multidisciplinary team of researchers from Massey interested in psychosocial factors in workplace health and safety. Bevan’s primary research focus has been on workplace bullying and workplace violence. Bevan has been involved in some of the first large scale research projects to investigate workplace bullying and violence in the New Zealand context. Bevan was the chair of the organising committee for the biennial conference of the International Association on Workplace Bullying and Harassment (IAWBH) held in Auckland in 2016.
Chris Jones, General Manager Safety & Wellbeing, Department of Corrections
Chris has studied extensively in the fields of safety, health and wellbeing. Chris has held roles at WorkSafe NZ (where he led the Strategy, Guidance and Standards, and Occupational Health teams) and the UK’s Network Rail (as Head of Occupational Health & Wellbeing Strategy). Chris spent several years working as Professional Head of Physiology for Nuffield Health, one of the UK’s largest healthcare organisations, where he provided strategic guidance on workplace wellbeing strategies to national and international organisations and was the clinical and professional head to over 100 Applied Health Physiologists who collectively delivered over 90,000 corporate health and wellbeing interventions each year.
Alex Beattie, Social media & wellbeing researcher, Victoria University of Wellington
Alex is a technology researcher and writer with an expertise in social media and wellbeing. He has a First Class Honours degree, an MA (with distinction) in Digital Humanities from Kings College London, and is currently completing a PhD at Victoria University of Wellington. Deleting his Facebook account over five years ago, Alex is interested in the tension between unplugging and staying connected to the world. Outside of academia, Alex writes about the relationship between technology and mental health, and has featured in the New Zealand Listener, The Spinoff, and Newsroom.
Terry Buckingham, Health & Wellbeing Manager, Fonterra
Terry Buckingham leads Health and Wellbeing for Fonterra’s NZ sites across 11,500 employees and has a team of 20 Occupational Health Nurses and Rehabilitation Advisors across Fonterra’s operations in New Zealand. Terry has a background in H&S roles including Consulting, Finance & Insurance and Tertiary Education sectors over the past 19 years. Since his career start in Nursing in NZ and overseas he has led successful teams in transforming the way Health and Wellbeing is led and managed in the Workplace.
Alastair Duncan, E tū
Alastair is currently the industrial leader of the Community Services Division of E tū, NZ’s largest trade union. He works with care and support staff, kitchen and household workers in the aged care, mental health and disability sectors. Alastair has worked for unions in the UK and United States and has also been active in Equal Pay campaigns for 40 years.
