New Zealand retirement villages, aged care facilities and home care providers have a chance to show off their innovative programmes and care delivery on a global stage at what is often referred to as the ‘Oscars of Elder Care’.
Executive Director of the Retirement Villages Association (RVA) John Collyns is urging Kiwi operators to enter the 6th Asia-Pacific Elder Care Innovation Awards. He says traditionally Australian organisations are well-represented at the awards and its time more New Zealand operators put themselves forward.
There are 12 award categories acknowledging excellence in active ageing, dementia care, innovative practice, design and architecture.
Of the six New Zealand entries at last year’s awards, all were finalists. Bruce Cullington (pictured) of South Auckland’s Acacia Cove Retirement Village took home the award for ‘Best Active Ageing Programme – Residential’ over stiff competition from New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia and Hong Kong. The village’s resident-driven ‘Live Longer and Live Better’ programme was what impressed the judges most.
The 6th Asia-Pacific Elder Care Innovation Awards will be held in Singapore in May 2018. Collyns will be representing New Zealand on the judging panel, along with Ms Pat Sparrow, National CEO of Aged & Community Services Australia (ACSA) and Mr Sean Rooney, CEO of Leading Age Services Australia (LASA).
